This saga, based on the Mayan account of creation, tells the story of how the universe came to be illuminated with dazzling stars and planets, meteors and comets that streak across the night sky, all of which came into being due to the conflict between the gods of the heavens and the lords of the underworld known as the Xibalba. It is a tale of light and darkness, greed and ego as well as love and the desire to create beauty. An explanation of the reason for calculating and recording of time, so important to the Maya, is the central theme of this story. Wisdom and enlightenment is born from the conflict between dual entities, as it is humanity who is the balance between the two and must bear the responsibility of the burden of time. For the gods to exist humanity must exist. When the last time keeper passes from this world, all that we know, indeed all existence, will disappear.
